Kimball/Vivian was once a very large producer of Metallurgical Coal. Below is an old article from the Waterloo Time-Tribune, Iowa of a mine expulsion.
Vivian, W. Va., Nov. 18. 1911 -- Eighteen men were killed in a coal dust explosion which occurred today in the Bottom Creek Mine of the Bottom Creek Coal & Coke Company at this place. More than 150 men were in the mine at the time of the explosion, but all escaped excepting eighteen of twenty-two who were in the explosion zone. Four of these were rescued alive. All but two of the bodies have been recovered at midnight.
This is a 4 bedroom cottage. There are two bedroom on the top floor, which one as 3 twin beds and the second has 2 full size beds. The two other bedrooms on the second floor, one has 1 twin and a twin bunk bed, the other bedroom as one full size bed. There is also a pull out couch in the living area.
The living room areas have couches, including a large table with chairs. There is a flat screen TV that has Cable in the second floor living area.
There are two fully equipped kitchens just like home. One kitchen is the second floor and another on the bottom floor. Each has a seating area to eat around. There are several coin operated washer and dryers on the bottom floor, just bring washing detergent.
All our cottage have a fire pit with chairs provided. We also furnish wood to burn but ask for a donation to help keep things fully stocked up. All our cottage come with good FLAT parking areas to accommodate trailers, vehicles and UTV's.
This map shows the best way to access The Lodge when coming in from the East on HWY 52. Please don't take the first turn on Chestnut St because it will not allow you enough turning radius to get in the gate with trailers.
